MEDIA FORUM OF CHINA, LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN AIMS AT A BETTER COOPERATION

The event was “an important occasion for dialogue and exchange between the main Chinese and Regional media.”

The Forum took place between November 18 and 20, 2018 and was organized by the Xinhua News Agency of China and the Federal System of Public Media and Content of Argentina.

Journalists from news agencies, newspapers, radios, television and news portals participated in the event.

The fact that Argentina will be the first country in Latin America to host a World exhibition (Expo 2023 Argentina Buenos Aires) was highlighted during the Forum.

On this regard, the Xinhua News Agency pledged to collaborate with the organization of the event by spreading the news about the Expo 2023 and broadcasting contents related to it. Other media companies from China, Latin America and the Caribbean expressed their willingness to contribute to the dissemination of the event.

At the meeting, two discussion topics were established: The role of the media in the pragmatic cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean, and the creation of a new platform for the China-Latin America and the Caribbean media through cooperation in new media.
The Forum was attended by representatives of 13 Chinese media and more than a hundred media companies from more than 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
“Opinions were exchanged in order to delineate the path that leads to development and cooperation among the media that participated in the forum, within the framework of the rapid developing and comprehensive strengthening of Sino-Latin American relations,” states the official document of the Forum.
The oportunity was also taken to strengthen the construction of the mechanism of the forum, to deepen a pragmatic and long-term cooperation.

Also, the post-event communiqué mentions that China and the Latin American and Caribbean countries have become important cooperative partners.

It was concluded that the idea of creating a Destination Community between China-Latin America and the Caribbean will be favorable for mutual understanding, as well as the level of collaboration and exchange between the media, sharing the information through a truthful and comprehensive as well as objective and balanced communication.

At the meeting, and in line with the view proposed by the theme of Expo 2023, it was proposed that Media should take advantage of the opportunities offered by new technologies, effectively managing competition and challenges, while exploiting their advantages and stimulate innovation to explore the new development spaces.
